DB Defender Waist Pack
The DB Defender Waist Pack is a low-profile weapon carrier version of our Multipurpose Waist Pack. Its primary function remains consistent with the MWP: It serves as an everyday carry solution, while discreetly accommodating small to medium-sized handguns and avoiding the appearance of a typical gun fanny pack. Designed in collaboration with Darryl Bolke, a retired career police officer, gunwriter, defensive revolver authority, and respected tactical shooting instructor, the Defender aims to keep you under the radar in your daily life.
Building on the success of our Multipurpose Waist Pack, we set out to create a comfortable and convenient pack that emphasized handling all EDC tasks first, while also carrying common CCW handguns. In consulting with Darryl, we chose to favor low-profile concealment over using the usual weapon pack giveaways like extra zippers, Velcro, or snaps that sharp-eyed observers may spot. The DB-DWP ensures your firearm is safe, secure, and out of sight until needed.
The dimensions of the DB-DWP are scaled up from the MWP, but not to the point of looking or feeling ridiculously large. It features a comfortable 1.5" nylon belt with a quality Delrin side-release buckle that adjusts between ~34"-48".
Available in a wide variety of solid colors and color combinations, regular MultiCam or MultiCam Black, or an overt model in either MultiCam or MultiCam Black with a loop field on the front pocket for Velcro-backed ID, medical, or morale patches.
Gun Pocket:
For safety and achieving a full firing grip, keep only the handgun in the weapon pocket. After opening the pocket flap, you must ensure that your support hand is clear of your weapon's muzzle while drawing.
The main gun pocket is designed for medium to small compact pistols (e.g., Glock 43, Sig P365, M&P Shield, LCP, CXC-9, J-frame or LCR revolvers), with compatibility for mounted optics and compact weapon lights. It MAY WORK with compact duty-size pistols (Glock 19, M&P Compact, Staccato-P, etc.), but this varies widely with gun configuration and hand size. Velcro-backed holsters for larger pistols are not recommended, as they may hinder a proper firing grip due to their fixed angle when secured.
Two different hook-backed strips are included for mounting holsters in the gun pocket; one for medium-sized handguns and one sewn into two sections to better fit smaller handguns. These mount strips are slightly more narrow than the width of the pocket to let you change the height and angle they are secured at on the internal loop fastener field. Using a rigid SCUBA webbing backer, they are designed to firmly hold the pistol against the body side of the gun pocket and eliminate any slop or shifting. Our stout XHD elastic crosses the front of the strip to form an envelope that holstered pistols are retained in. Plastic or metal clips, or snap loops, may be easily secured over the elastic just like your 1.5" belt, allowing you to use or remove your normal IWB/AIWB holster immediately from the DB Defender pack.
Twin internal paracord loops are sewn into the bottom of the gun pocket at each end to allow tethering holster shells for a "static line" draw. Offsetting them to the sides creates the correct geometry for securing the shell for either right-hand or left-hand use. The offset loops also create more room for the hand to obtain a full firing grip by centering the gun in the pocket, not the holster.
Rugged YKK zippers with pulls offer easy access to the gun pocket. Double zippers allow staging them closed at either end. When you decide which direction you want to open the pouch zipper from, we recommend removing the pull tab and cord from the unused slider, or tucking them inside the pouch, so there is no way to accidentally grab both when attempting to open the flap under stress.
Twin bottom grommets in the gun pocket serve as drain holes and allow shock cord (not included) to be attached for external or internal retention loops.
Front Utility Pocket:
The front utility pocket can easily hold most cell phones (up to iPhone 15 Pro Max/Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra dimensions), medium-sized wallets, keys, small flashlights, etc. It is large enough to hold two full-sized double-stack magazines, but this is a LOT of weight hanging off the front and we don't recommend it!
Rear Utility Pocket:
The pocket on the back is secure against the body but may be slow to access while wearing the pack. It is generous enough for most wallets, phones, or flat medical items like chest seals. We recommend choosing relatively thin, flat items for this pocket.
