Why Buy Wilderness?

The Wilderness 20th Anniversary Logo 1981-2006

Wilderness Tactical Products, L.L.C. was founded in 1981 to fill the needs of people who demanded durable, high-quality equipment. We are not just concerned with durability, we are downright stubborn about it. Our motto is our philosophy: "Overkill never fails."

Our products have been tested from the icy mountain peaks of South America to the blistering Sonoran desert for more than 25 years, and they have proven themselves time and again. They have consistently been favorites of serious outdoorspeople, mountain climbers, search and rescue, American Pistol Institute and Gunsite personnel, as well as armed military, intelligence, police, instruction and civilian professionals around the world.

Why Buy From Us?

  • We are absolutely dedicated to making the strongest equipment of its type in the world. We are concerned about goodness, not cheapness, and firmly believe we offer exceptional value and top quality.
  • Every Wilderness Tactical-brand product is made by us in the U.S.A., right here in our Phoenix facility.
  • Every seam is multistitched and taped with nylon binding tape. We backstitch all starts and stops on stitch runs. All materials are of the highest quality available and carefully chosen for their attributes.
  • We use custom-made premium nylon webbing in many of our products.
  • All polymer hardware is high-grade, often custom cast in reinforced configurations just for us.
  • We strive to create original designs rather than copy others, and unlike many others we continue to improve existing designs as new ideas and new materials become available. Our belts, slings and virtually every other product we make are several generations into their development -- they are never "done." The lab tests of our Original Instructor Belts™, posted here, is a typical example of why we have become one of the most trusted names in tactical gear.

We have gone to extremes to make our products as good or better than we claim them to be. Overkill never fails.

Color Choices for Most Wilderness™ Products

&uot

Most Wilderness products are available in black as standard. Black, as an "urban camouflage" color, is excellent because so many mundane nylon products are black. It is an expected color in society, and only seems obviously "tactical" when you know what the item is. Our testing showed that black Safepackers were overlooked more often than subdued-color experimental versions.

Some items are available in other color options, which are listed with the product. Color-coding utility bags can make organization much easier. In some cases, it's nice to keep items in low-profile, subdued colors to match your gear or surroundings. And, frankly, black can just get boring at times.

All sling bodies are available in black, Wilderness Coyote and Wilderness O.D. Wraparound harnesses and plastic hardware are black.

BK – Black WC – Wilderness Coyote WOD – Wilderness O.D.

Instructor Belts, Frequent Flyer and Ring Belts are available in black, Wilderness Coyote and Wilderness Olive Drab. Items like Giles Bags and duffels are not always in stock in colors other than black and may need to be back-ordered. If a color listed with a product is unavailable when you order it, you will be contacted with other options.

BK – Black COY – Coyote Brown OD – Olive Drab
GY – Medium Grey RD – Red GN – Forest Green
BY – Burgundy MB – Marine Blue NB – Navy Blue
OR – Safety Orange GY – Goldenrod Yellow TL – Teal
YW – Safety Yellow

Colors are approximate and may not match exactly due to circumstances beyond our control such as differences in monitors, browsers, computers and different lots of fabric.

Choosing The Right AR/CAR Giles Sling

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT GILES SLING

FOR YOUR AR-15/CAR-15-TYPE RIFLE

Where is your front sling-swivel attached?

Standard BOTTOM-MOUNTED sling-swivel.

OR

SIDE-MOUNTED* front sling-swivel.

NOTE: sling-swivel must be 1-1/4" standard military width to accomodate our slings.

*REQUIRED for Sure-Fire Millenium forends.

If you have a SURE-FIRE MILLENIUM FOREND light on your gun, a front side-swivel is REQUIRED due to the light and switch positions. GG&G "Sling Thing" side-swivel adapter available.
RAIL-MOUNTED sling-swivel.

Where is your rear sling-swivel attached?

Standard fixed-stock BOTTOM-MOUNTED

rear sling-swivel

CAR-15 SIDE-MOUNTED rear sling-swivel (aftermarket adapter).

CAR-15 SLOTS instead of swivels (classic Colt type I, Colt type II SOCOM rib-reinforced/Rock River, etc.).
MAGPUL M93-series stocks may have a Single-Point® sling attachment which can be mounted on either side.

To fit a 3-point Giles Tactical Sling™ a Wildereness adapter must be used with a 1-1/4" sling swivel.

SINGLE-POINT® attachment included which can be mounted on either side. Must be a version with a 1-1/4" sling slot, not a ring. Typically used with the Wilderness Single-Point® Sling; can be used with a front side-mounted sling swivel to mount a universal/AUG Giles Sling.

Which forend/handguards are on your rifle?

AR handguards/forends can come in numerous variations.

Some A2 and CAR handguards have a taller, OVAL cross-section

Most A2 and CAR handguards have a ROUND cross-section.

A1 handguards have a TRIANGULAR cross-section.

Knight's Armaments RIS/RAS/M5 rail adapter (and similar) MIL-STD-1913 rail systems. Must use side swivel attachment for Giles Sling® such as GG&G Sling Thing or Knight's Rail Mount Sling Adapter.

FREE-FLOAT forends (Armalite, Knight's, PRI, etc.). Sling swivel stud must be on the side facing the shooter at either the 9:00 o'clock or 3:00 o'clock position. Armalite forends can be rotated to index the stud properly.
If you have a SURE-FIRE MILLENIUM FOREND light on your gun, a front side-swivel is REQUIRED due to the light and switch positions. GG&G "Sling Thing" side-swivel adapter available.

Which buttstock is on your rifle?

Because fixed A1 and A2 stocks can have numerous similar features depending upon date of manufacture, the easiest way to differentiate them is by length. Older FIXED A1 buttstocks (left and middle) are 9-7/8" long from the back of the gun's reciever to the back of the buttplate. Newer FIXED A2 buttstock (right) is 10-1/2" long from the back of the gun's reciever to the back of the buttplate.

Traditional STANDARD CAR-15 (Colt Type I and similar) buttstock with top and bottom slots.

newer RIB-REINFORCED (Colt Type II SOCOM M4A1 and Rock River M4-type) stocks are ribbed, have an angled buttplate and no top sling slot.
MAGPUL M93 stocks may have a Single-Point® sling attachment included. To fit a Giles Tactical Sling™ an adapter must be used with a 1-1/4" sling swivel.
